According to the Brewers Association, more than 5,000 craft breweries exist in the United States. Add to that number the nearly 9,000 wineries in the country, and you have unlimited tour options to choose from on your next vacation. If you find yourself in Westfield, Indiana, and are looking for places to visit, we have you covered. Below are the destinations for adult beverages in Westfield, Indiana, that you shouldn’t miss.

A Bit of History on the Hoosier State

Indiana is nicknamed The Hoosier State (pronounced whose-yer), but little is known about how that nickname came to be. Some historians point to a poem titled “The Hoosier’s Nest”, written and published in the Indianapolis Journal in 1833. Others take a more humorous view and chalk it up to the early settlers’ love of a good tavern brawl. After the fight, “whose ear?” was supposedly a common question. No matter how it was named, your visit to The Hoosier State won’t be complete without checking out the breweries and wineries in Westfield.

Urban Vines Winery & Brewery Co.

If you love “firsts,” visit Westfield’s first winery and brewery. Indiana University graduate Noah Herron opened Urban Vines in 2017. Herron sources grapes and grape juice from vineyards around the country, then ferments and ages his wine.

Located at 303 E. 161st St. in Westfield, the winery and brewery offers various behind-the-scenes tours, although you need to contact Urban Vines ahead of time to schedule your tour. Urban Vines also offers its own beers and ciders, along with a delicious lineup of local meats and cheeses for snacking. Wine styles range from the traditional cabernet sauvignon to fun fruit flavors such as Strawberry Fizz.

Grand Junction Brewing Co.

If you’re looking to grab a pint of beer brewed in traditional European styles, Grand Junction Brewing Co. (GJBC) is the place to go. From Hefeweizen and porter to a brown ale named Squirrel Stampede, a style exists for every beer lover.

GJBC has recently expanded and opened a second location. You can visit its taproom located at 1189 E. 181st St. or the brewpub at 110 S. Union St. Both locations are closed Monday and Tuesday, but the weekend event schedule is packed with trivia nights and live music. You can also grab a growler of beer to go.

Breweries and Wineries in Nearby Areas

You can find some noteworthy places only a short distance from Westfield. You could book a hotel in Westfield and make it your home base, which would make your explorations easy. Carmel and Fishers, Indiana, are within a 20-minute drive, and they feature a variety of shopping, restaurants, and, of course, beer and wine destinations. Sun King Brewery has a cult-like following in the craft brew scene, so it may be worth the trip to nearby Fishers to grab a pint for yourself. While you’re in Fishers, you can also visit Harmony Winery.

While Westfield is a small town (less than 40,000 people), it certainly isn’t lacking in great beer and wine options. Enjoy your beer and wine discoveries in The Hoosier State.
